Document Summary

Three rioters who seek to murder death are diverted by a pile of gold: they find death in the gold. Greed: the plague motivates the three to seek to avenge the death of a friend by destroying death. Old man: hopes death will find him, and return him to his mother earth. The love of money is the root of all evil. The pardoner tells how he lies to people about promising prosperity: they pay him for pardons, he doesn"t care about the people, only the money, preaches against what he practices. People who aren"t religious, spend time dancing and drinking: drunk men lay with their daughters, herod, drunk, sentenced john the baptist to death for no reason. No difference between someone who is drunk and someone out of their mind. Gluttony: adam, garden of eden, drunks only fight, are dominated by it. False and strong oaths: too outrageous or oaths not taken seriously are bad.
