Provide small amount of nutrients for a relatively large amount of calories i. e. foods high in fat, sugar, cholesterol, salt, and alcohol. Foods that contain a lot of calories but they offer a low nutritional value. They lack nutrients such as fiber, vitamins, and minerals. They add calories to food but few or no nutrients. Provide health benefits beyond those supplied by the traditional nutrients it contains.
