Document Summary
Operant conditioning- learning controlled by the consequences of ones actions. Thorndike"s law of effect: precursor to operant conditioning. If we"re rewarded for a response, we"re more likely to repeat that response to the stimulus in the future: what we do voluntarily results from the gradual buildup of stimulus-response. Insisted on describing all behavior in observational, measurable terms: created the box with a food dispenser and a light. Shaping: shaping: conditioning a target behavior by progressively reinforcing behaviors that come closer and closer to the target. Positive or negative: is this consequence pleasant/ increasing future behavior or unpleasant/ decreasing future behavior, put the two words together: Pattern of reinforcing behavior: continuous: reinforcing behavior every time it occurs, faster acquisition, faster extinction, partial (or intermittent): only occasional reinforcement of a behavior, slower acquisition, slower extinction, consistency of administering reinforcement, fixed, variable, basis of administering reinforcement.
