Autism is getting a lot of media attention right now. It is nding its place in discussions across many elds. Places from chuck e cheese to barber shops are trying to nd ways to incorporate these individuals. One reason for the sharp increase in rates is because changes in the dsm put multiple disorders under one title. Unfortunately this is not communicated through the media very well. Lorna wing: work to lessen the harsh stigma associated with autism and encourage support and special education, also found that the box for autism was far too narrow. Hans asberger: early progressive view of autism that presented it as a broad and inclusive continuum that needed lifelong care and compassionate support as opposed to conners view that is was narrow and caused by harsh parenting. Still catching up to his views and discoveries. Gave mass audiences a view of what autism actually looked like.
