Os serves as an interface with the hardware we use: memory hierarchy: the idea of the hierarchy, as you go higher up, memory is smaller and faster. As you go lower down, memory is bigger and slower. Very expensive to create large and fast memory. quick rate (3 billion/s): disk: slow/big , such as a terabyte. Much faster than memory but not as fast as cpu. If there are 3 levels of cache, it improves capacity and performance and enables computers to run fast.
