Sexual orientation : extent to which an individual is oriented toward heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, or asexual activity. Sex-role behavior : extent to which an individual behaves in traditionally masculine or feminine ways. Gender identity : gender an individual believes he/she/they are (not always binary). Determining sexual orientation is likely an exploratory developmental process for many that is complicated. Sexual orientation has not been shown to be an either-or determination between heterosexuality and homosexuality. Continuum that ranges from heterosexuality, homosexuality, and bisexuality. Males are more likely to have had some same sex experience before identifying as gay or bisexual; females are more likely to have heterosexual experiences before identifying as a lesbian or bisexual. Females who have had same-sex experiences during adolescence almost always continue same-sex relationships in adulthood; for males only about 60% do. More research on men than women focusing on two factors: Most evidence suggests adolescent sexual orientation is shaped by both biological and social influences.
