Fears of a specific object, place, or situation. Avoiding phobic stimuli is negatively reinforcing: social anxiety disorder: Fears of doing something to humiliate one"s self in a social setting of in an evaluative situation. Most common fear is of public speaking. Combines relaxation training with gradual exposure to a hierarchy of fear-inducing situations. May be done imaginal or in vivo (in real life) or in a combination of the two: panic disorder: A person experiences multiple un-cued (no cause) panic attacks over a period of time: panic attacks: sudden inexplicable attacks of intense fear, including difficulty breathing, dizziness, sweating, etc. May last several minutes or over an hour.
