JS-3100 Lecture 18: Ideas Surrounding the Holocaust

23 views3 pages

Document Summary

The argument was that at the center of the holocaust was a "racial state" rather than anti-semitism. A state with a full force of state power (modern/industrial state) backed by essentially racist policy across the board. Not just that jews were translated into a different race. Argued that across the board there was a frontal offensive against all peoples who were thought to be different. Because there were other victims in concentration camps too. Not just that it was the 1930"s/1940"s in europe, but it has direct relationships now. Linking up of different groups / "sectionality" of different groups. Even in the us ideas like these happen against certain groups. Germans created a society in the 1930"s that said that certain people"s lives were not worth living. The whole argument surrounding the handicapped: their lives were not worth living, so they were targeted. So much money can be saved if they terminate a handicapped persons life.
