JS-3100 Lecture Notes - Lecture 17: Gestapo
Document Summary
At least 11 million people died in camps. 1941: before the invasion of the soviet union. We would"ve thought nazi germany started a war of aggression. Forced some people to work like slaves, deported poles, etc. to make room for germans. Had killed 2,000 civilians (about half were mentally disabled, 1/4 belonged to polish intelligencia) Tens of thousands of victims of air attacks (northern poland and france) Lots of people died in ghettos (warsaw and lodz) This would"ve all been a big deal, but it hadn"t reached the levels in japan and under stalin"s rule. Not looking at the full unfolding of the brutality in eastern europe yet. 95% of all deaths caused by germans occur after the invasion of the. 1941 is still a year of confusion/no one knew what was going to happen. Soviet pows are the group most-killed in 1941 (not even jews yet) No map showing what nazi germany rule was going to look like.
