Housing: about 100 plus homes inside and outside the walls, houses plain, of mudbrick, single-story. Tomb workers: workers tunneled and decorated tombs, hereditary tomb builders, specialized jobs: painters, plasterers, sculptors, foremen, and scribes. Villagers: workers for the tomb builders, workers for the workmen, gardners, fishermen, potters, handymen, devout, religious, educated, town often run by woman, paid in kind. Evidence: ostraca, tombs of villagers, tombs of kings, surviving literature, including tale of sinuhe, temples and altars, decoration of housing.
