Document Summary

In your response, please present and discuss at least three different ways of conceiving and approaching disability. Compare and contrast what you think are important dimensions of these definitions, including conceptions of disabled people. Finally, present and argue for how you think we ought to define disability, why, and toward what ends. It"s a dilemma in the sense that there are differing viewpoints, but it"s not a medical dilemma. (dilemma, not medical dilemma). Medical model defines disability as the problem of the disabled person. Any kind of help, intervention, or interpretation is directed at the disabled person. Autism speaks (blames it on the person with autism; treats them as they are the problem. ) The social model says that the person with the disability isn"t to be fixed, to be pitied, or even to be someone that inspires you. What needs to be fixed and addressed is the society.
