Document Summary

Symptoms include manic mood phase and depressed mood phase. Hope to stay at a normal, euthymic mood. Depression - can experience grim delusions, feeling sad, lethargic, self-hating. Hypomania - state of mood that most often feels really good, euphoric, lots of energy. Mania - very disorganized, not getting sleep, bizarre behavior, impulsive and reckless, sometimes psychotic symptoms can happen (hallucinations, delusions) Bipolar i - full manic mood followed by full blown depression (occasionally euthymic) Could add a mood stabilizer to an antidepressant for really bad depression that won"t go away. Gives the patient their life back, staying stable. At low doses, these medications act as mood stabilizers, and are very effective. Lots of research done on these, you can take them even if you"re pregnant. Dry mouth, nausea, nervousness, insomnia, sexual problems (lowered libido), headache. Dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, difficulty urinating, worsening of glaucoma, impaired thinking, and tiredness. Can also affect a person"s blood pressure and heart rate.
