PSYCH 210 Lecture 2: DQ_2
Document Summary
I believe both types of research are important to the field of psychology and that no one method is superior to the other. However, different research studies call for different methods. Qualitative is superior in research studies that involve interviewing participants and fostering a more personal relationship with them whereas, quantitative is superior in fact base studies. An example of a research study where quantitative research would be superior over qualitative could be a study examining the effectiveness of a new weight-loss supplement. For this study, researchers would be interested in knowing if the group that received the weight-loss pill and the group who were given the placebo pill lost weight or not. This would be accomplished with an initial weigh in and then subsequent weigh ins throughout the research study.
