Document Summary

Study of philosophy: derived from the two greek words. Philos- someone who loves to love, or to love. Sophia- wisdom or knowing how to connect all your experiences together. 3 studies of philosophy: ontology- study in a thing in which exists, or study of existence. Study of god: epistemology- the study of knowing something or believing something. Example of epistemology is logic: axiology- the study of value. An example of axiology is approval of something. If you approve of something, you value it. If it is true, it is either a or not a : the law of non-contradiction- never have a and not a true at the same time. Fact/value- a value statement is not the same as a fact statement. No value can be reduced from a fact. No facts about something you like can persuade someone that you should value that same object. You"re only conveying how you feel about that object.
