The matrix = metaphor for oppression no one can be told what the matrix is; you have to see it for yourself; many people are so dependent on the system that they fight to protect it. When it comes to talking about systems of oppression, we see that different social identity groups are treated differently based on historical prejudice and discrimination and their (in)ability to use social power. Theory of social dominance one group is more dominant than another group. Track that history over a period of time track a history of injustice as well. Without social power, then you cannot oppress another group of people*** Power = having the ability to influence the attitudes and behaviors of people, institutions, and culture. Power is unstable because it can be emotionally driven, based on fear/insecurity. 3 types of power: power over, power with, power within (empowerment) Minority vs. majority power more significant than numbers.
