The branch of study dealing with the structure, function, uses, and models of existence of microscopic organisms. Two interconnected themes of microbiology- understanding the living world of microscopic organisms and applying our understanding of microbial life processes for the benefit of humankind and planet earth. As a biological science micro uses and develops tools for probing the fundamental processes of life. Because microbial cells share many characteristic with cells of multicellular organisms, indeed all cells have much in common this illumates life processes common to mutilcellular organism, including humans. As applied science- micro is center of many important aspects of human ana veterinary, medicine, agriculture, and industry. Thus microorganisms affect the everyday lives of humans in both benefical and detrimental ways.
