CRIM 380 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Internet Governance, Linkedin, Cyberbullying
Document Summary
Social media refers to digital platforms that allow users to share content and online profiles as well as interact with other users (schimmele et al. , 2021). Social media websites are extremely prevalent today amongst the youth as it is a means for them to communicate with their peers as well as get updates of everything happening around them. Although, social media is an attractive means amongst the youth there is growing concern that increased intensity and duration of social media may have negative consequences on developmental processes amongst the youth (schimmele et al. , 2021). As a local law management and enforcement representative i have picked five popular social media sites which are: instagram, linkedin, twitter, youtube, facebook. I have examined the cyberbullying policies they have in place and argue that although the policies play a role in deterring the bullies, they are not sufficient enough to help youth overcome cyberbullying if they become a victim.
