Document Summary

Biosphere: all of the environments on earth that support life. Ecosystem: all the organisms living in a particular area + the physical components (non-living) with which the organisms interact. Community: the entire array of organisms living in a particular ecosystem. Population: all the individuals of a species living in a specific area. Tissue: group of similar cells that perform specific function. Organelle*: membrane-enclosed structure that performs a specific function within a cell. Molecule*: cluster of small chemical units called atoms held together by chemical bonds. Emergent properties result from the arrangement & interaction of parts within a system. Are the level at which the properties of life emerge. All cells share certain characteristics (ex: being enclosed by membrane, using dna as their genetic info) 2 main forms: prokaryotic & eukaryotic: pro leaves its dna hanging around in the cell (no nucleus, simple, ancient, usually bacteria, eu puts a cell membrane around dna (yes nucleus!, complicated, larger, have other membrane-bound organelles.
