Document Summary
There are 4 components of interactional psychology: behavior is a function of the interactions between a person and the situation. Personality and organizations: personality- character traits that influence a person"s behavior on a constant basis, trait theory- the combination of the observable traits seen in a person is what forms an individual"s personality, the big five personality traits: 2: extraversion- gregarious, assertive, sociable, agreeableness- cooperative, warm, agreeable, conscientiousness- hardworking, organized, dependable, emotional stability- calm, self-confident, cool, openness to experience- creative, curious, cultured, integrative approach- focuses on personal dispositions and situational variables. Together, these two predict an individual"s behavior: strong situations- overwhelm the effects of individual personalities, locus of control- a person"s beliefs regarding their internal control (self control) compared to their external control (control by situation or other people). People with an external locus of control tend to prefer a structured work environment and don"t like to make key decisions.
