Using international affective picture system (iaps) and other validated pictures sets. Very weak emotion state is elicited, but still see reliable changes in brain and physiological activity. Allows researcher to induce multiple emotions multiple times in single session - good for neuroimaging studies and studying effects of emotion on perception and cognition. Validated from clip libraries with brief movies for different emotions. Tend to elicit fairly specific emotions (rather than just good or bad feelings) Takes longer than images but induces stronger emotions. Certain features of music associated with particular emotion features. Pitch and interval size influences arousal and valence. Music may be better for generating diffuse affective states than discrete emotions. Good for slightly more intense, prolonged emotional state induction.
