An interferometer is an optical gadget which uses the impact of interference. That should be possible with various types of radiation; however this article explicitly manages optical interferometers, i. e. , interferometer for light. The power or the spatial shape of the resulting beam can then be utilized for example for estimation. Interferometers as often as possible should be produced using high quality optical components. For instance, one frequently utilizes mirrors and optical flats with a high surface flatness. The mach-zehnder interferometer was invented by the physicists ludwig mach and ludwig. As displayed in figure above it utilizes two separate bar splitters (bs) to part and recombine the beams, and has two outputs, which can for example be send to photodetector. The optical way lengths in the two arms might be almost different (as in the figure), or might be same (for example with an additional delay line).
