CSC 1750 Lecture Notes - Assembly Language, Computer Language, Mnemonic
Document Summary
Computers don"t understand human language, we need to use computer languages to communicate with them. Machine language- the only that the computer understands directly, it is composed of a series of 1s and 0s. Very hard to program in, does not make a lot of sense to human eyes. Assembly language- consists of short description of what action to perform (called a mnemonic) followed by the variables that the action is going to be performed upon. This adds the numbers 2 and 3 together and stores them in the variable result. Assembly language is run through an assembler, which translates the code into machine language. While assembly language is easier to understand than binary, it is still difficult and tedious to program in. High level language is a computer language that is closer to english. Saves the result of 2+3 to the variable result.
