Document Summary

A system for collecting information by asking questions or having participants respond to stimuli statements. Purpose is to introduce comparable information across many people so the data can be generalized to the population. Generally addresses issues of national or societal concerns. Questionnaires can also be used with other research designs such as experimental and quasi-experimental. Face-to-face: social desirability issues, researcher directly gives it out to participants. Phone: not suited for long surveys, for exploring topics with older participants. Online: geographically dispersed sample, no limitations, skip logic, tools allow a lot of criteria. Mail: high nonresponse rate, high probability of not getting a response back. Substantial changes will require that you pretest or pilot test the questionnaire (administering the survey on people who will be similar to your participants) Avoid biased / leading questions ( don"t you think? questions) Avoid double negatives ( i do not dislike this statement) Ask about only one topic in a single question.
