Bellamy uses this perspective to provide different ideas into distribution of wealth, poverty, and cooperation amongst the people. There is no need for competition over wealth since everyone is awarded an equal share of the wealth regardless of input. Crime is extremely rare due to money usually being the primary motivation. By using the vehicle of a historical view, bellamy can provide insight into what a possible society could be. Since the character of julian west represent the readers of the story, they can relate to him more easily and begin to conceptualize how things could be different. Bellamy uses the concept of time-travel to illustrate his ideas of social reform as a blueprint for the improvement of society. Julian west is bellamy"s representation of the people of the nineteenth century.
