PLANT PHYSIOLOGY Final: Lab Activity Photosynthesis
Document Summary
Results and discussion (hill reaction, chlorophyll properties, paper chromatographic separation of pigments, dcpip, dcmu: photolysis of water (hill reaction) In the hill reaction, when light is absorbed by chlorophyll, electrons raise to a high energy level and are transferred to the electron carrier nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (nadp). The electrons from chlorophyll are then replaced by splitting water, producing oxygen, electrons and hydrogen ions. In the experiment, dcpip which is a redox dye was used. But the color of the solution was green which should have been blue. This resulted in the inaccuracy of the experiment results. The dcpip isolated from the chloroplast is used to replace nadp as the electron acceptor. The dcpip is then reduced from blue to colorless by the addition of electrons. In the first test tube, the initial color was green which then became yellow-green, although the initial color should have been from blue to light green.
