Psychology 1009 Lecture Notes - Lecture 50: Relational Psychoanalysis, Object Relations Theory, Pearson Education
Document Summary
Philosophical perspectives are worldviews that define the nature in it, and the possible relationships of the world. They also serve to provide an individual"s place in a given setting and the possible relationships that can arise in its various segments. Counseling theories are developed with respect to a particular set of assumptions regarding to what the theory stipulates. It is our contention that when situational variables require some crucial decision on the part of the counselor or therapist, then an underlying set of assumptions should drive the decision. This paper aims at providing an analysis of the differences among neo-analytical writers and relativistic, constructivist ones (murdock,2012). The paper also provides the distinctions and the underlying assumptions that will enable counselors and researchers to make better informed decisions. This is because the theories provide frameworks for describing learning and designing instruction. The main philosophical difference among neo-analytical writers is whether they are objective thinkers versus relativistic constructivist ones.
