Document Summary

We will transition from last week"s focus on algorithms to a little more focus on machines and on the machines we now use to implement these algorithms all the more powerfully. Today we begin to take off these training wheels and look at what"s really going on underneath the hood of your computer. When we are dealing with computers, we use binary. But when we use hexadecimal, we use 0-9"s and a-f"s which is also known as base16. This is 16 to the first and 16 times to the 0. To represent values beyond f, we use 01, which is not equal to 10. And 1 times 0 gives us the decimal number we now know is 16. Therefore, we will no longer introduce more and more base systems. Let me stipulate that by using columns, that you learned back in grade school, can you implement any base system now.
