Document Summary

Cs50 focuses on data collection and storage, and today"s agenda is entirely centered around this. This week, we will be using spreadsheets and csv files to collect and analyze data. We have received a few hundred responses, and it would be useful to determine the most popular tv show. Google forms handles the responses by dropping all values as a comma-separated list within the spreadsheet. If we download this file as a csv, it becomes problematic. Spreadsheets have a limit on the total number of rows which they can store (although this number has increased in recent years), and at some point, a pc or mac cannot handle the data. Spreadsheets are incredibly useful for organizing large datasets, which can be exported as csv (comma-separated value) files. Csv files are a type of flat-file database, which is essentially a file that stores data. The data in a csv file is static, meaning the values do not change once exported.
