Melody- a succession of single pitches that we hear as a recognizable whole. Range (the distance between the lowest and highest pitches/notes) Contour (the way the notes are arranged: ascending, descending, wave, arch) Type of movement (conjunct- in small steps, disjunct- in skips and leaps) Phrase in music (as in language) is a unit of meaning in a larger structure. Cadence is a resting place which punctuates the music in the same way that a comma or period punctuates a sentence. Climax is a striking effect, the high point in a melodic line, which usually represents a peak intensity as well as its range. Countermelody ( against a melody ) is an added tune to an existing melody. Pitch (how high or low a note is) Interval is the distance between any two pitches.
