Document Summary
Displaying both traditionally masculine and feminine psychological characteristics. Umbrella term describing people whose gender identity or expression differs from that associated with their birth sex. Whatever gender you are now is the same as what was presumed of you at birth. This simply means that when a parent or doctor called you a boy or a girl when you were born, they got it right. Sex hormones are one of the forces that drive sexual behavior. It is found in both females and males. The additional testosterone n males stimulates the growth of the male sex organs during the fetal period and the development of the male sex characteristics during puberty. In nonhuman female mammals, estrogen levels peak during ovulation. Large hormonal surges or declines tend to occur at two predictable points in the life span. The pubertal-stage surge triggers the development of sex characteristics and sexual interest.
