When electrons are passed down the electron transport chain in the mitochondria during respiration (or in the chloroplast during photosystem II), the series of redox reactions that carry the electrons along gradually lose energy. Where does this energy go? It isâ¦
a)lost as heat.
b)used to move protons (H+) across a membrane, against their concentration gradient.
c)used to make NADH in mitochondria or NADPH in chloroplasts.
d)used to split water into hydrogen and oxygen.
I believe the answer is D but I'm not sure
