MY ANSWERS SO FAR

Allele frequency of p= 1/2 (2pq)+ p2

P= 1/2 (0.1578) + 0.8421

=0.921

Allele frequency of q = 1/2 (2pq) + q2

= 1/2 (0.1578) + 0.0

= 0.0789

Expected genotype of the population:

AA(p2)= 0.848 aa (q2)= 0.006

(2pq)Aa =0.0105

I'm confused as to why this doesn't total upto 1

a). The gene that codes for the ABO blood group in humans has three alleles. In a population of 1000 people, the frequency of the IA allele is 0.2, and the frequency of individuals in the population with type O blood is 0.49. What is the frequency of the IB allele in this population? Show your work.

b). In the same population as above, what is the frequency of people with type A blood? Show your work.

O = 0. 49 = Q2 = square root (0.49) = 0.7

(0.2)2 + 2 (0.2)(0.7) = 0.32
