Knowledge worker = a worker who transforms knowledge or information into a product or service. Intellectual capital = the collective brain power or shared knowledge of a workforce. Data = any quantifiable measured values, observations or statistical counts that, when collated, become useful for decision-making. Information systems = systems that use information technology to collect, organise and distribute data for use in decision-making. Five essential characteristics of useful information: (must tick all five: timeliness (the data must be current, there"s no point using old data, quality (must be reliable. Standardised procedures should be used: completeness (to what extent is the data representative of the population, relevance (the right questions must be asked to obtain useful answers, understandability (we can"t use data we can"t understand) For example, by looking through big data analysis, a call centre discovered that employees with creative personality types tend to stay with the organisation for more than 6 months but those with inquisitive personalities often don"t.
