ANHB2212 Study Guide - Final Guide: Perineal Membrane, Pubic Arch, Seminiferous Tubule
Organs of the Pelvis
Pelvic Organs:
• Pelvic viscera can belong to the following systems
o Gastrointestinal system
o Urinary system
o Reproductive system
Gastrointestinal System:
• Rectum
o Continuous with sigmoid colon and anal canal
o Most posterior element
▪ Anorectal junction pulled forward by puborectalis → anal
canal moves in a posterior direction as it passes through
pelvic floor
o Anal canal
Urinary System:
• Terminal parts of ureters
o Crosses pelvic inlet
o Crossed by
▪ Ductus deferens (males)
▪ Uterine artery (females)
• Bladder
o Most anterior part of pelvic viscara
• Proximal part of urethrea
o Begins at the base of the bladded
o Ends with an external opening in the perineum
o Women

▪ Long
▪ Passes through prostate
▪ Enters root of penis
Reproductive System:
• Men
o Testis
▪ Develop high on posterior abdominal wall
▪ Descend through inguinal canal into scrotum
▪ Spermatic cord → connection between scrotum and
abdominal wall
▪ Covered by tunica vaginalis
▪ Composed of seminiferous tubules and interstitial tissue
urrounded by tunica albuginea
o Epididymis
▪ Efferent ductules → forms head
▪ True epididymis → efferent ductules drain into this
o Ductus deferens
▪ Transport spermatozoa from epididymis to ejaculatory duct
o Ejaculatory duct
▪ Accessory glands
• Prostate
o Inferior to bladder
o Posterior to pubic symphysis
o Anterior to rectum
• Seminal vesicles
o Secretions contribute to volume of ejaculate
(semen)
• Bulbo-urethral glands
o Contribute to lubrication of urethra and pre-
