Document Summary

Pain is relevant because it will impact all of us and has already impacted many of us. The dilemma with pain is that there is no way to standardize pain. It"s a completely subjective experience and is very personal. Acute pain is caused by soft tissue damage, infection and inflammation. Somebody punches you, you get a bruise, damage around the muscles. Surface cuts, it hurts, but it can become infection, swollen, tender, etc. This all falls under the category of acute pain. Chronic pain linked with long-term illness or disease. Motor vehicle accidents, workplace injuries are both major causes of chronic pain. Blue collar workers can experience really bad chronic pain. Can trigger other issues depression, social isolation, work issues, lack of physical activity. Difficult to assess and diagnose because there is no apparent cause, it is difficult to pinpoint the exact cause of the pain.
