Due to the breakdown of public health measures (especially under the regan presidential administration) resurgence of infections due to under-vaccinations occurred. However, it was the eradication of small pox that gave medical experts hope and interest in tackling other global diseases. It led to the creation of several programmes trying to raise global health standards (who, unicef"s epi). This ambition initiated intellectual discourse through conferences and public scholarly papers; proposing improvements in infrastructure, research, global prevention and control. For example, it paved the road for the iom report, which campaigned for academic discussion on communal platforms to create a general awareness of infectious disease; through scientific scholars trained interaction with media and news reporters. All of these actions elevate societal interest of infectious disease through increased public availability of biomedical discourse shifting once difficult disease concepts into common sense. The golden age of medicine is a time period between 1870 and 1970 of academic and medical success.
