Family structure: higher income tends to be related to better physical, social/emotional, cognitive, and behavioural well being, family structure does influence a child"s development to the extent that female lone parent families tend to have lower incomes than two parent family structures. Viewed people as actors in the play roles either as individuals or collectives: actors are motivated to achieve a goal, actors must find the means of to achieve their goals, actor must face challenging conditions that stand in the way of achieving that goal, actors must work within the social system to achieve their goals. Quantitative and qualitative approaches: quantitative approaches: conducting and analyzing research quantitatively involves converting aspects of social life into numbers and determining whether a significant relationship exists between sets of numbers, qualitative approaches: qualitative approaches do not involve the conversion of social life to numerical form; rather, the focus is on rich detail.
