In 1989, carol fine"s husband, harry committed suicide. The impact of her loss prompted carol to write, no time to say goodbye. In the shirt story, fine recognizes that her experience with suicide has changed her life forever leaving her dumbfounded and in an unclear state of bereavement. Fine also recounts a range of emotions that her husband"s death brought, from feelings of anger and misery to shame and guilt. Fine begins by stating her once familiar world exploded with his suicide. suicide directly affects those who were close to the deceased. Ranging from family, friends, and lovers, survivors are left weak and vulnerable by suicide. Subsequently splitting their lives into two distinct periods: life before a loved one"s suicide and life after. Having shared her world with her husband for twenty-one years, fine spent many weeks lost and confused without him.
