Superior vena cava (top of the heart - vein) returns blood from upper regions of the body to the right side of the heart. Inferior vena cava: ascending aorta, pulmonary veins, right atrium, right ventricle, aortic arch, pulmonary trunk. Left auricle: auricles allow atria to increase blood volume capacity. Left ventricle: pulmonary veins, descending (thoracic) aorta, above the diaphragm, posterior surface view, aorta. Sulci: coronary sulcus: lies between the atria and ventricles. Interventricular sulcus: lies between the right and left ventricles: coronary vasculature, coronary arteries, right side of heart: marginal artery, posterior interventricular artery. Left side of heart: circumflex artery, lad interventricular artery: coronary veins, right side of heart: small cardiac vein, anterior cardiac vein, middle cardiac vein, coronary sinus. Left side of heart: great cardiac vein: pericardium, consists of . Fibrous pericardium: dense, irregular connective tissue, protects and anchors the heart, parietal pericardium.
