Haisla Nation History and Reconciliation Act
Haisla means dellers donrier and have occupied lands for over 9000 years. Located on
Kitamaat Village. There are eight clans (eagle, beaver, crow, killer whale, wolf, frog, raven,
salmon). In 1918, there was an influenza pandemic that wiped out the wolf and frog clans. The
Na’Na’Kila Istitute as estalished i  to help protet ad eourage development of
Haisla ulture, iludig laguage. Na’Na’Kila helped rig aout the repatriatio of a Haisla
totem pole that had been removed in 1929 and was missing for more than 60 years. It was
discovered in the Museum of Ethnography in Stockholm in 1991 and, after years of negotiation,
it as retured to Kitaaat o Jul , 6. I ehage for it’s safe retur, the Haisla ared a
replica pole to gift to the museum in Stockholm.
6.9 No Haisla Engagement Response. If a response is not received from the Haisla
Nation within the number of working days set out in Step 2 of Table 1, the Provincial
Agency may proceed to make the Land and Resource Decision, but before doing so
will advise the Haisla Nation of the approximate date of the impending Land and
Resource Decision, including the details of any measures to be taken to address any
potential adverse impacts on asserted Haisla aboriginal rights, including aboriginal
title.
