Phenotypic plasticity is the ability for an individual"s genotype to change its phenotype in response to different environmental conditions. There are great tits from britain and from the netherlands. Great tits from britain have greater phenotypic plasticity as they are able to change their behaviour in response to a warmer climate. The temperature started to get warmer earlier so there was an earlier emergence of oak leaves, which were able to feed the caterpillars that great tits eat. This resistance to change resulted in the birds not having enough food, which contributes to a decrease in brood size and a decrease in reproductive success: state tinbergen"s four questions and give examples of each. Example: starlings: causation refers to the proximate causes of behaviour. Air flows through their voice apparatus to set-up membrane vibrations: development refers to the ontogeny of behaviours. The bird learned the song from their parents: evolution refers to the phylogenetic context in which the behaviours are found.
