Arrangement of words and phrases to make understandable and effective sentences in a language: grammar. The entirety of the structure and system of a language. Contains syntax and morphology, phonology and semantics. Intonation and cadence: the different ways that the voice moves while speaking, natural rhythm, flow, how the voice rises and falls. How to form certain words with mouth: knowing what words will sound like. Associating words with abstract concepts: this is considered to be understanding meaning. Contextual meaning: understanding what is being said in light of how it is said. What it is surrounded by: both within the sentence as well as in the outside world, communicative competence. Nuance in language: sarcasm, irony, etc. Understanding what is considered polite or impolite. Weekly quizzes 24: available on avenue, each wednesday thursday, grade from top 8 scores.
