Media as a human extension they are extensions of our human sensory & activity abilities, will always assert social life through extensions. Technologies such as facebook have made us almost perpetually connected & available. It is not isolation or being alone that makes us unhappy; it is loneliness. The biggest factor in loneliness is the lack of quality social connections ( con dants ) Facebook does not create social connections; it merely extends them to another platform. In the case of facebook, loneliness may depend on the way in which the website is used. Those who write &/or receive personalized comments & conversations are less lonely. In contrast, those who passive & impersonally scan &/or broadcast may be more lonely. How does this relate to sherry turkle"s article no need to call . Americans are neither more lonely nor more detached.
