Big bands had dominated music industry since mid 1930s. A big band is a jazz band or stage band. 20 players, 4-5 saxophones, 4-5 trumpets, drummer, singer. Can play some pop stuff and swing stuff. A jazz band is a 1940s pop band. Example: sentimental journey (brown(composer)/homer(band member)/green(band member): performed by les brown and his band of renown, featuring doris day(went on to become a major film and music star). Becomes a hit when ww2 ends in 1945. The title of the song was why it was such a big hit as troops were returning from europe at the time.
