Marta is a single 26 year old master of fine arts student at the university of toronto. She has produced a brilliant portfolio coupled with a high gpa in her undergraduate work. Marta has what is described as an artist"s temperament" which is marked by periods of intense creativity and energy, followed by listless periods of withdrawal. Marta"s parents have always managed her behavior and protected her from her excesses. They are now overwhelmed by her latest burst of energy and are baffled by seemingly erratic behavior. The latest incident is an altercation in a travel agent"s office where marta attempted to book an expensive flight to paris to study in a number of museums. The trip was declined by her credit card company because she had spending in excess". Marta became explosive and then threatened the agent with her fist. As she rose to her feet she became pale and slumped to the floor in a faint.
