The distinction between mind and body was a popular topic in early philosophy. Renee descartes was a rational philosopher used demonstrated extreme skepticism in his work and was interested in the nature of reality. He tried to prove that the mind and the body were two separated entities. He believed that an evil demon was the cause of false perceptions. He further explained this using the famous wax. Descartes takes this hard piece of wax and examines the colour, taste, texture and other physical properties. He places the wax next to a fire and notices that the physical properties are changeable. He connects his observations with his idea of the body and mind. Although the form of the wax changed, it is still the same piece of wax. However, our body cannot identify through the sensory perception that this wax is the same piece of wax.
