Anything in the handbook not discussed in class is not part of course. Exam: only assigned readings after second midterm the rest is cumulative. Criteria of abnormality: 2 ways to determine when an illness is seen as real, 1. Symptoms impair social, occupational, or other domains of functioning. Not doing as well as they should in normal functioning, danger to themselves/others: 2. Symptoms cause significant concern for the individual. Are they causing them distress: you must meet at least 1 of these in dsm typically you need both. These terrorists are perfectly healthy, no sign of mental illness. You can be a danger to self/others but not have a mental disorder.
