Nature vs. nurture: this is an ongoing discussion whether people have developed differently due to how the were raised or whether it was due to their genetic make-up. Individual: nomothetic & idiographic, nomothetic: we are interested in studying personality to generalize to everybody, idiographic: we want to know about this one particular individual. Theorists clinicians, not scientists: normally in lab testing, we would see, modify and then test it out in the real world only then will it become a theory. Influenced by theorist"s personality: scientists tend to be objective, responding to phenomena in the world, however scientists are affected by who they are, the bias in their hypotheses because of who they are as a person. Little empirical support: there is no one theory that has research as their support. Non-scientific evaluation: theorists/therapists say that the therapy of personality theories must base its correctiveness will eventually lead to positive change.
