Definition of aggression behvaioural intended to hurt or injure someone physical verbal social harm. Manipulating reltionship, saying hurtful things, spreading gossip. Hostile: driven by anger- immediate response- ultimate goal is to harm ex) murder. Observing naturalistic aggression- hockey game, checking into someone the physicality of it. In abs and experiments- explore hurting behaviors without harming the participants. Ex) in lab would be administering hot sauce to others, putting them in uncomfortable yoga pose and setting the amount of time, spraying bugs with raid. Humans are born with aggressive tendencies: death instinct (freud) Maladaptive and we work against it: adaptive inborn behaviour (lorenz) Adaptive, protects us, pass on genes, mate: we have ways to inhibit aggression- otherwise we"d be a lot more violent with one another. Neural influences: lower limbic cortical areas associated with behaviors, frontal brain areas- associated with inhibition of aggression, inhibit or activate certain areas of the brain and record the correlating actions.
