Document Summary

Describes the way in which energy transformations take place all over the world. First law: law of conservation of energy. Energy can neither be destroyed nor created; changed from one form to another. Whe(cid:374) (cid:272)ha(cid:374)ged fro(cid:373) o(cid:374)e for(cid:373) to a(cid:374)other; there"s a de(cid:272)rease i(cid:374) the quality of usable energy. Entropy= measure of the disorder of a system; useful energy has low entropy. These are important for organisms b/c they continuously expend energy to maintain themselves, and it tells us energy cant be recycled. Energy flows in ecological systems: producers and consumers. Plants and stuff absorb light energy from the sun and convert it into food for themselves during photosynthesis. Autotrophs (producers) = make their own food and provide shit for everyone else (oxygen) Chemoautotrophs: energy from chemicals in the environment. Organisms need o2 for cellular respiration to occur: food chains. Each level of the food chain is known as a trophic level.
